LAB VALUES

Community-Oriented Science

Community is important in every aspect of our research. Within the lab, our community is committed to treating one another with kindness and respect, supporting each others’ growth and wellbeing, and working closely together as a team.

We also deeply value building community with our fellow dept. members, collaborators, community partners, research participants, and the animal staff and caretakers with whom we work.

We are dedicated to connecting with communities outside of traditional academic spaces to effectively communicate our science via school presentations, podcasts, blog posts, and public lectures.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging

Our lab is building a scientific practice that centers diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging at every level.

We are dedicated to compassionate mentorship, celebrating and advocating for diverse voices within and outside of academia, encouraging institutional change, and fostering networks of support for scientists from backgrounds who have been historically underrepresented and excluded.

Open Science

Open sciences practices are at the heart of our work. We value Preregistration, open sharing of data on public repositories, and supporting open access journals and practices.

We aim to make our science openly accessible not only with scientific and academic researchers but also to communities outside of these spaces.
